The Memories Live On

The Memories Live On

This is Lawton Jiles’ latest album on Beam Records.  It all started when Lawton’s wife Ruth asked him to make this album as a lasting effort to his children and grandchildren.  It was released in April 2002, and has been well received.

Lawton pays tribute to the Bakersfield Sound (which he was a part of) and is an active life member of the Bakersfield Country Music Museum.  He also pays tribute to the “Valley Rhythm Boys” a band he started with his late brother Johnny, while still in high school.  One song Blue Moon Café refers to the stories of those days in that seedy club.  There is the song written by Paul Marshall, and Kathy Robertson called the “Blackboard in Bakersfield and the Palomino” which holds the story about two very popular West Coast, night clubs a place where many Country stars could be seen in the 50’s and 60’s.

The album includes a song called “It’s Only You” written by Lawton’s younger brother Jess who passed away before hearing the recording.  This song features Lawton and Ruth’s daughter singing a duet.  The albums break out song seems to be one called “I’ll Have to Call My Wife” a fun tune about who’s boss around the house.  The album has 17 songs and includes some old time pictures in the jacket.
